William R. Schofield held a variety of forestry-related jobs. The U.S. Forest Service engaged young Schofield in seasonal and regular assignments before and after he graduated with a forestry degree from the University of Idaho in 1916. In the decade after World War I he held jobs with county and state governments, a lumber company, and a lumber trade association.
